Bio
Hi! I'm Javi James, an artist and specialist in sound and recording engineering. In 2023, I began exploring sound design and developing immersive music for architectural visualization and conceptual art projects. My first EP was MUTUS METEORA, for the Spanish VR visualization studio "SecondaryBounce." The technique I use involves taking defined sound elements and exploring new forms, without clear ideas. This deconstruction is what allows me to find something I may have been searching for, but didn't know it was. I work with analog and MIDI technologies in constant symbiosis.
The approach I take for these types of projects is oriented towards a narrative sensationalism, quite minimalist and respectful of silences. I pay close attention to sound quality, dynamics, and spatiality. I also play with dissonances, nuances, and unpredictable melodies. Sub-bass is a very characteristic feature of my compositions, thickening the soundscape and conveying its message. I also use quantization and tempo adjustments, which lend an underground, raw edge to the track. I don't like precision; for me, perfection lies in imperfection. Sometimes I'm a bit disrespectful of methods and theories, which, in reality, I know very little about.
I like to manage the entire production chain, from composition to mastering, and I do it all from the underground, with my humble home studio. I consider every aspect of the work very important, which is why I'm so meticulous about quality. The way I compose has led me to discover new styles of expression.
Objetive of the thesis.
Although a thesis was not required academically, given its format, the Instituto Mendocino de Audio y Sonido recognized by the AES was a great source of knowledge for me. Today, I apply that knowledge even in my main activity, which is not linked to the world of audio, but to parapsychology and associated therapies. I developed MReal Audio to prove to myself how much I had understood about the physics of sound, since I love science. Although the objective was not to develop a plugin per se, I knew that I was creating software within another software (Excel). I did it for educational purposes, not to be used in production.
About MReal Audio.
What does MReal Audio do? It is a parametric calculator. The program allows the user to create a three-dimensional physical space and place the sound sources in that space. SPL and weighting have been taken into account. It allows you to select certain materials on the floor, wall and ceiling, which have the real reflection coefficient recorded, achieving a true RT60. Objects or sound sources also have the vertical parameter, respecting the height that we give to the stage, which influences the dynamics of the room's reflections. All this data that we program, throws out parameters in real time such as panning, delay, amplitude, attenuation, and sampling. These parameters are used to configure our mix in the DAW, and thus simulate a very real organic reverberation of any sound we use. The program generates dynamic graphics in real time, which you can see in the reflections window and in the equalizers, both on the main screen. It is not a common excel. Theoretical bases of Hass, Sabine, Fletcher and Munson were used. Free to download and use. Totally Free.
